10 November, 2014—Justin Wilson got the chance to not only help a new debut event, but also a great taste of college football in the bargain this weekend.
The 2015 season will see IndyCar expanding to an exciting new market as the inaugural Grand Prix of Louisiana is set for April 10-12, 2015. The race will be held at NOLA Motorsports Park, a 2.67-mile natural terrain permanent road course in the Jefferson Parish area outside of New Orleans.
With indyCar breaking new ground and opening a new market, the series and event promoter (Andretti Sports Marketing) have already commenced promotional efforts to build the audience for the event and develop its long-term future.
Wilson was invited by the promoter to help with a weekend long series of outings and media opportunities, which for Wilson were built around the huge Alabama vs. L.S.U football game at Tiger Stadium.
Having lived in the States for better than a decade, Wilson is already a football fan. But after an afternoon that also included an autograph session with Michael Andretti, Wilson got the full sweep of experiences that attract such big crowds for the games as he tailgated with NOLA track president Kristen Engeron before getting to check out the stadium at field level before the kicked off.
“It was a fun weekend and I was happy to be a part of it,” said Wilson. “I think it’s fantastic not only to be growing the markets where IndyCar races, but also for the Andretti folks to be working so hard to promote it and make it successful. I’ve been to a few football games, but it is hard to compare the excitement from that game! I really had a blast and hopefully these kinds of efforts Will mean there are a lot of people there in April for the race.”
Wilson continues to prepare for the 2015 season with his rigorous training regimen as he targets a strong campaign in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
