Milwaukee, Wisc. (16 August 2014) – After posting the quickest time early in qualifying for the ABC Supply Co. Wisconsin 250 on Saturday, Justin Wilson wheeled the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Dale Coyne Racing Honda/Dallara into the pits to a healthy round of applause as the fans on hand recognized the progress Wilson and his crew had made on the day.
Wilson’s two lap average was 166.501 mph on the legendary one-mile oval, which secured the Briton 12th on the grid. (Broadcast: NBCSN Sunday 3:00 PM ET).
After setting best lap times of 162.390 mph and 161.785 mph in the first two practices, Wilson made the most of the conditions as he set his fastest time of the weekend so far to lock in a place on the sixth row of the grid for the 250 lap race as the Verizon IndyCar Series readies for the final stretch of the 2014 season.
“I would like to think that we are that dialed in, but it is always the circumstances,” Wilson told IndyCar Radio. “The cloud cover came in and cooled the track down. But the guys really did a great job. We struggled this morning in practice. We found something towards the end of the second session and put a new set of tires on. The car felt good, I just didn’t get a good lap out of it. We opted not to change anything because we thought as you get used to the car, you can get more out of the car and know what it is going to do, so that predictability really pays off.”
Wilson will open race day with a driver meeting then autograph session ahead of the 3:00 PM ET scheduled start to the race, which will carry live NBCSN coverage as well as IndyCar Radio.
